A mole can be removed in about ten minutes. That is exactly why it is worth being careful about who does it.
Removing a mole with a laser or cautery destroys the tissue. If that mole was harmless, no harm done. If it was not, the evidence has been burnt away, the diagnosis is lost, and what remains is a scar with no record of what was underneath it.

Can a mole be removed on the same day?
Usually yes. If the dermoscopy examination shows an ordinary mole and you want it removed, it is done at the same visit under local anaesthesia. If the examination shows anything atypical, it is excised and sent for histopathology, which changes the technique but not usually the timing.
Will mole removal leave a scar?
There is always some mark. A shave removal on the face usually leaves a flat pale spot that blends over several months. An excision leaves a fine line. Where the mole sits and how you heal matter more than the technique, and you are told what to expect for your particular mole before you agree to it.
How do I know if a mole is dangerous?
The warning signs are change of any kind: growth, an uneven or spreading edge, more than one colour, itching, or bleeding without being knocked. Any of those is a reason to be examined promptly. Most turn out to be harmless, and that is a good outcome rather than a wasted visit.
Is laser mole removal better?
Not for diagnosis. Laser and cautery destroy the tissue, so nothing can be tested afterwards. They are reasonable for a mole already confirmed as ordinary, and a poor choice for anything with atypical features, which is why the examination decides the method rather than the other way round.
Will the mole grow back?
A properly removed mole normally does not. Pigment occasionally returns after a shallow shave removal, in which case it is re-examined rather than simply shaved again. Regrowth is one of the features we look at closely.
